July 6 — Cliffs of Moher, Limerick

Today was a bit of a wash. We were supposed to see the Cliffs of Moher but when we got there the clouds made the visibility zero. We did stop at a great 12th Century Abbey called the Corcomroe Abbey and it was beautiful. It is mostly ruins but that made it even more beautiful. I got an awesome picture of Nancy standing in a doorway through a cross. It is beautiful.

After we drove up and found that the Cliffs were going to be near impossible to see we went down to the town nearby and ate at The Roadside Tavern which was established in 1865. It was such a surprising delight. It’s the first really authentic tavern we’ve eaten at and I was expecting bar food. I had this crispy risotto in a mushroom cream sauce that blew my mind. It was awesome.

Then we drove the rest of the day to Limerick. We checked in at the Savoy and dad upgraded both our rooms. They are fancy and super nice. Then we went for a walk and lucked on a camera store, which was great because my camera lens protector had somehow fallen off. Lastly, we went to eat at Alex Findlater & Company, in the Grill Room. Nancy and I had steak and Dad had lamb. Man it was good. They included one onion ring with my dish and I swear it’s the best I’ve ever had. Also, I had chocolate gelato (really more ice cream then gelato) and again, awesome!
